INDIVIDUAL RELATIONSHIP  therapy

Your marriage, relationship or dating life is taking a toll on your happiness, and no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to fix it.

Maybe you’ve reached a crisis point and you’re confused about whether to stay in your relationship or leave. Maybe your relationship has slid into a state of complacency and you’re going through the motions but feel unloved, unseen and unheard. Or maybe you’ve been so deeply hurt in the past, you feel too vulnerable to even think about opening up to a new partner.

Strong relationships thrive when you empower yourself to be a better partner.

Relationship anxiety has you losing sleep and wondering if you will ever escape this confusion and hopelessness. You’re yearning for a connection that makes you feel alive, deeply loved and supported, but right now, that kind of relationship seems out of reach.

It doesn’t matter what relationship stage you’re in – married, separated, dating, or single – together, we’ll explore the challenges you’re experiencing and talk about what you want and need out of a relationship so that it truly fulfills you. Through this process, you’ll also gain new insight and greater self-awareness so that you can make better choices. Choices that are more aligned with who you are and support you to show up in healthy ways for your partner and for yourself.

When you get to know yourself on a deeper level, you empower yourself to become a better partner. Only then can you open the door to the deep, satisfying connections that you desire and deserve.

You don’t have to stay stuck in emotional limbo. I can help you find the clarity, growth and change you’re seeking.

Individual relationship counseling may benefit you if:

Relationship stress is impacting your mood, appetite, sleep, or peace of mind

Your partner or spouse is not willing to commit to therapy right now

You are attending couples therapy together and you would like some extra guidance and support

You’ve recently ended a relationship and you would like to process your thoughts and feelings

You want to undersatnd and move forward from an infidelity or betrayal

You can’t find the right partner and are interested in exploring why.

Great relationships begin with YOU

As a therapist who specializes in relationship issues, I know that change starts from within and ripples outward. This means that the best way to create a strong and resilient relationship with another person is to focus on your own self-growth, not theirs.

Truly understanding yourself is key, which is why my goal during our time together is to guide you to become more self-aware, confident and empowered with new relationship knowledge, tools and skills.

As a result, you’ll be able to show up in your relationship in new ways that invite connection and help you to weather the relationship challenges that inevitably come up in life.

Individual relationship counseling can help you to…

Feel more comfortable to open up and take emotional risks

Set healthy personal boundaries

Process the difficult emotions of an infideltiy or betrayal

Navigate relationshp stress and conflict without shutting down, numbing out or withdrawing

Understand how significant relationships in your life have influenced and shaped your relational style

Take responsibility for your thoughts, feelings, and actions

Communicate and express yourself confidently in your relationship

Break free from negative relationship patterns

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

How It Works

Our first step is to set up a convenient time to talk so that I can get an idea of your therapy needs and goals. During this complimentary 20-minute call, you’ll have the opportunity to ask quesitons and determine if we are a good fit. If we are, we’ll set up our initial session. If I’m not the right therapist for you, I’ll provide you with referrals to other therapist who may be a better match for your goals.

CONSULTATION

During our first online session, we’ll discuss the initial paperwork you filled out prior to our session and define some of the relationship goals you’d like to achieve. By the end of this session, you’ll have a good sense of what online therapy feels like with me and we’ll be ready to start doing the transformative work that will improve your life.

FIRST SESSION

Online sessions will be designed with your specific relationships goals in mind. We will explore your relationship history and discuss the challenges and obstacles that are getting in your way. With the new knowledge and skills you develop during our time together, you’ll feel more confident and empowered to create a strong, loving relationship that withstands life’s ups and downs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes you different from other individual relationship therapists?

I am a trained marriage and family therapist with over 10 year’s experience working with couples and individuals. Not all therapists and counselors have this specialized training in relationship issues and couple dynamics, and many do not have advanced couples therapy training.

I also specialize in early childhood attachment trauma and how this trauma (often unknown to clients) can impact adult romantic relationships.

In addition, I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the most empirically validated couples therapy model to date. EFT is an attachment-based, experiential model of therapy that shapes and strengthens secure emotional bonds between people and provides a deep well of knowledge to draw upon when I work with individuals experiencing relationship anxiety and stress.

The result of this training and experience is that I help clients understand themselves on a deeper level so that they can have more self awareness, more self confidence, and more satisfying relationships with the people in their lives who matter most.

Can I really change my relationship if my partner is not present in therapy? Will it help if I work on my relationship alone?

The answer to this questions depends on the intention and expectations you bring with you to therapy. While there is no substitute for couples therapy, individual counseling has its own benefits and there is a lot that can be done, even if you are the only one in therapy.

The key is to be willing to take an honest look at how you show up in your relationship—the good ways, the not so good ways, and the really bad ways, too! If you can do this, then going to therapy on your own can have extremely positive effects because when one partner takes ownership and responsibility in a relationship, the relationship dynamics tend to change, too. Maybe then, your partner might be more open to couples counseling, where you can both grow together and create a stronger, mutually satisfying relationship.

That said, if your intention for therapy is to solely focus on talking about your partner or on fixing or changing him/her/them, then therapy may not be helpful since the only person you can change or control is yourself.

Also, if your partner is committed to divorcing or ending the relationship, then I would recommend that the focus of therapy be on helping you to feel a strong sense of self-worth and to find peace of mind as you make the transition.

What if I’m not currently in a relationship? Can I still get relationship counseling for singles?

Absolutely! Whether you’ve been single for a while or have recently gone through a painful break-up, separation, or divorce, this is the perfect time to get to know yourself better and learn new skills to bring with you into your next relationship.

My goal is to help you fully understand your relationship style and needs, learn new ways of relating, and gain a clear vision of what a healthy relationship looks like for you. Then, when the right person crosses your path, you’ll be more confident and ready for a strong, loving partnership that can weather the inevitable bumps in life and withstand the test of time.
